Trent Richardson - Cleveland Browns - Pick 3
Kevin Nelson: You can lock it up right now. Trent Richardson will be the highest rated rookie on my fantasy board this upcoming season. Rookie running backs typically make the quickest transition to begin with and when you add in Richardson’s size, speed, and talent level, there is no reason not to put him at the top. Just one short year ago Peyton Hills was ranked as a consensus second/third round choice. With no real competition in sight, I see no reason to rank Richardson any lower. He can play all 3 downs, he will get the ball at the goal line, and the Browns have an above average offensive line. With the holdout, new addition in Bush, I personally would take Richardson above Matt Forte at this point. That is how much I like this kid and this situation. The running back position is not very deep this year, especially with bell cows, and this is a supremely talented one. Love this.
Cian Fahey: The next Adrian Peterson is not worth drafting in the top five if you are an NFL team, but he should be a hot commodity for fantasy fans. Richardson combines explosion, hard running, ball security and the ability to make receptions out of the back-field to succeed anywhere. Richardson is easily the most talented skill position player in this draft class, he should have no issues adjusting to the NFL right away. The Browns really needed a runner and Peyton Hillis showed the kind of success players can have in Cleveland two years ago. Playing in the AFC North is no longer as problematic for running backs as it used to be however the Browns' lack of talent on the outside will allow teams to zone in on him. It may be a tough rookie year for the running back, but he should be a viable starting fantasy back. Especially if the Browns pick up someone to help him later in the draft.
Projection:
850 yards rushing, 8 touchdowns, 2 fumbles. 400 yards receiving, 3 touchdowns.
Cameron Sparks: One of the best backs to arrive since AP, there's a reason why Richardson climbed up draft boards and the Browns made the right move in taking him. He has tremendous promise and his versatility makes him their number 1 threat immediately. They also didn't have to mortgage their future to receive him. Look out for Richardson to try and make an immediate impact in 2012!
