Tom Brady: Brady vs. Rodgers, Rodgers vs. Brady. This is the ideal debate when taking into account the “fan” aspect of fantasy football. Personally, I’m choosing Aaron Rodgers over Tom Brady because they are 1a and 1b in terms of fantasy quarterbacks and Aaron Rodgers is my favorite player. As an analyst, the fact remains that I believe Tom Brady will end up with more fantasy points this season for a multitude of reasons. First, the Patriots brought Josh McDaniels back to be their offensive coordinator again and all Brady did last time he was in town was break the single season passing TD record. The same Josh McDaniels who made a temporary fantasy star out of Kyle Orton. Yeah, Kyle freakin Orton. Not to mention Brady will certainly not be void of weapons this year. Four of Brady’s weapons are currently being drafted on average in the first 5 rounds! Those stats have to come from somewhere and for their owners to be happy, Brady owners will be doing back flips. Well, the small percentage that can actually pull of the feat at least. The final aspect I like for fantasy purposes in terms of choosing Tom Terrific over Aaron Amazing (still working with his people on that one) is that the Patriots simply do….not…..care about the score. Fans of the game might not like running up the score, many people debate whether a team is or is not running up the score, but whatever the case, the one thing we know is the Patriots won’t stop until the whistle blows. From a fantasy perspective, can you ask for anything more? – Kevin Nelson
Aaron Rodgers: It seems there’s no more of a statistical lock these days in fantasy football than Aaron Rodgers. Top quarterbacks change, running back top 10s are different year after year with people dropping in and out like Norm at Cheers, and then you have Rodgers. Ranked 3rd in standard scoring in 2011 for QBs, despite not playing a game, following 3rd in 2010, 1st in 2009 and 3rd in 2008 performances, 2012 will be no different for Mr. Rodgers. His 2011 campaign included 8 300-yard performances, which it seems Rodgers can do in his sleep. What’s more impressive is topping 3+ touchdowns in 10 games, including 5 with 4+. Toss in his 3 rushing TDs and 250 rushing yards, a number that could increase in 2012 with defenses playing the biggest prevent since Madden ’95, and you’ve got an all-purpose threat capable of winning you 3 to 4 weeks by himself. Tom Brady has plenty of weapons this year but Rodgers has an argument with a healthy Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, speedsters James Jones and Randall Cobb and Jermichael Finley, who at his peak is definitely capable of being an elite tight end. I understand risk/reward and that may point to Brady as his rewards are looking swell, but easily the safest and possibly best pick in your 2012 fantasy football draft is Rodgers. If you take him, you pretty much can write your ticket into your fantasy playoffs. – Cameron Sparks
